In my last post, I told you about our dog, Ginger. After her diagnosis on March 1, the prognosis was 4 to 6 weeks. Unfortunately, her illness was more savage. We put her to rest on March 15. The doctors informed me I would know when it was time to bring her in, and they [...]

My routine is so, well, routine. I get up, make coffee, watch the news, pet the cat and go to work. Later I come home, make dinner and then my husband’s lunch for the next day. It is so routine I could do it with my eyes closed. Apparently, I did. Last week I was [...]

I started a memory book for my dog, Ginger. She is the best dog I have every had the pleasure to raise. Never sick a day in her life. So, we were surprised, on Feb 19 to find out her blood looked “strange”. Within 2 weeks, and several tests, she developed stage 5 lymphoma with [...]

In less than two weeks I have heard the horrible sounds of “get out!” crushing my spirit. The first was a mistake of sarcasm, one so innocent, but apparently touching on a sore spot that ran so deep the owners reaction was to throw me out of the store. This seemingly nice man was horrific, [...]

There are 23 pigeons sitting on the wire across the street. Just sitting. A light breeze moves their perch – wings flap, balance maintained. A mist floats in the air. After a week of cold, the warmer temperature is a blessing despite the absense of sunshine. The heater kicks on and I feel warmth creeping [...]

This is painful. My mind is flowing, rapids tumbling over rocks, swirling in whirlpools. What direction, how do I focus? The dog is barking, making me crazy. So many ideas, which one do I choose. When I start on one, the others seem more interesting. I can’t stay focused. Do I have an attention problem? No. I can focus on a movie, sit at my computer for hours, socializing with peeps I will never meet, slinging mindless dribble in every direction without guilt and satisfaction.

Sometimes circumstances beyond our control turn our lives upside down. Thus was the call on August 27 from my step-sister. What appeared to be tragedy for one parent turned suddenly to the other. My step-mother’s sudden death though shocking, was actually a blessing. Her path to mid to late stages of Alzheimer’s was taking it’s [...]
