Mrs.P Announces Winners of First Kid’s Writing Contest

Future bestselling authors from North Carolina and New York

On January 15, 2010, the winners of the Mrs.P first annual “Be a Famous Writer” contest were announced. Gabrielle Fuller, 8, from North Carolina, took top honors in the 4- to 8-year-old category with her comic fairy tale, “Pretty Princess and Funky Frog.” Isabella Penola, 12, from New York, won in the 9- to 13-year-old category with her tale of an elderly gardener, “Spattered Mud and Crushed Petals”. The winners will have their stories produced as videos featuring Mrs. P (Kathy Kinney), and then will be posted, for a limited time, on her popular website MrsP.com beginning in March.

“Like everyone, I’m concerned about the state of education in America. But based on the quality of writing for my contest, I’m happy to say a lot of teachers out there must be doing a wonderful job,” said TV star Kathy Kinney, who portrays Mrs. P and is one of the creators of the website.

MrsP.com is a wonderful arena to encourage the love of reading. The Mrs.P writing contest is another link in the love of reading chain to inspire the imagination. The contest will be an annual event and runs every September.

PERSONAL NOTE: “I recommend every parent, grandparent, friend or neighbor visit Mrs.P, and encourage children to realize the enjoyment of reading and expressing their imagination into stories. My “little” one is 23, and a prolific reader and writer. I still have the first story she “wrote” at age 4, “The Teacher that Wasn’t”, which was dictated to me. Over 6 years, she wrote and rewrote the story. (She really liked that story). It is enjoyable to see its evolution.
